EHV Updates and Show Requirements

In 2022, the horse community has been presented with an increased awareness relating to Equine Herpes Virus  (EHV-1, EHV-4 and EHM).  Team NW and Cypress Events have been closely following all the developments leading up to our shows.

We have been in contact with the United States Equestrian Federation and the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Dr. Schumacher of the USEF, said that there is no reason to not go ahead with the shows!

A few people have expressed concern about a sick horse who attended the OHSET show in Redmond on May 12-15. The horse who had respiratory symptoms, tested negative for EHV-1 and is healthy. Another horse from the same stable, became symptomatic of EHV two weeks later and sadly, was euthanized. The USEF vet said the affected horse was outside of the 14 day isolation and therefore the OHSET show has not been declared as an affected show.

The Sacramento show at Rancho Murieta in May, has a reporting obligation to declare any EHV affected horses. The USEF vet said that there were no positive cases on the showgrounds at their recent Sacramento shows. He went further to say that EHV is endemic in the horse population and we are all living in a time of a heightened awareness to the virus which lends to worry.  He said we should run the shows and encouraged us to remind everyone to avoid nose-to-nose contact with horses outside their cohort and to practice good bio-security.

Cypress Events and Team NW are requiring:

1. Proof of Vaccine for each horse,

2. Temperature logs for each horse, and

3. A declaration of health which can be found HERE.

We will be disinfecting stalls when horses move out and before new horses move in. In the rare event that there is a symptomatic horse, we will have an isolation tent set up and ready.

Lastly, If you don’t want to attend the show, due to your concerns, you may push your stall fees to another show later in the season. Please email us prior to the event.
